The Burger King Texican Burger: Because All Mexicans Are Short Wrestlers and All Americans Are Tall Cowboys

texican

Lots of mierda is being thrown across the Atlantic between UK based Burger King and the country of Mexico.

A European advertisement for Burger King's Texican Whopper burger depicts a diminutive wrestler teaming up with a towering American cowboy almost twice his height to illustrate the cross-border blend of flavors of the Texican Burger.

"The taste of Texas with a little spicy Mexican," a narrator's voice says.

In fact, here's the commercial itself:

Mexico's ambassador to Spain said yesterday that he has written a letter to Burger King's offices in that nation objecting to the ad and asking that it be removed. Jorge Zermeno told Radio Formula that the ads "improperly use the stereotyped image of a Mexican." Press officials at Burger King Corp. offices in Miami, Florida, and Madrid, Spain, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Height controversy aside, what about the formica wall paneling and the craptastic curtains?!  Don’t tell me this commercial conveys the notion that Mexicans have poor taste in interior decorating, too!!     ¡Qué horror!

Christ, people need to lighten up.

If anybody should be offended, I'd say that the good ad creators (or WTF ever you call them) have a case. The spot sucked.

@Syd Personally I think they decided to skimp on the budget for a quality commercial in hopes that this controversy will help boost sales ... and it's probably working.

You are probably right. I'm not conniving enough...the advertising world would eat my ass alive. And not in a good way :P
